How you can tell

It's rarely the version number. Usually it's the system landscape that has grown over time.

Do you recognize your system in one of these statements? Tap it, and next to it you see what the upgrade changes.

  1. In the upgrade

It starts with an assessment: we record the version of your NAV environment, your customizations, interfaces and data volume. Afterwards, you work with Business Central as a long-term platform instead of a technological dead end. In the cloud, the Upgrade Management Service then takes you through the major releases.

  2. In the upgrade

In the analysis, we assess which developments you will still need. Many historical customizations are no longer necessary today because Business Central now provides the functionality as standard. What remains is built in Business Central as an extension instead of in the program code.

  3. In the upgrade

The upgrade is the opportunity to clear out legacy: back to standard, fewer custom developments. We record your interfaces in the analysis and test them before the system goes live. Fewer special solutions mean simpler updates and lower maintenance effort in the long run.

  4. In the upgrade

Business Central works more closely with Microsoft 365 and prepares you for AI and Copilot. If you move to the cloud with the upgrade, you receive new features continuously and no longer depend on large upgrade programs.

How NAVAX upgrades

Move once, then stay current.

The move from Navision to Business Central runs in five predictable phases. After that, no new major project begins. Instead, a cycle begins that repeats with every release.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the Business Central upgrade.

What Navision and Business Central customers most often want to know before an upgrade.

What does a Business Central upgrade with NAVAX include?

Two parts. First, the move from Dynamics NAV, formerly Navision, to Business Central as a project in five phases: analysis & assessment, migration concept, data migration and configuration, test phase, and go-live & hypercare. If Business Central then runs in the cloud, the Upgrade Management Service takes you through the major releases.

What happens to our customizations and custom developments?

In the analysis, we record your customizations and assess which developments you will still need. Many historical customizations are no longer necessary today because Business Central now provides the functionality as standard. That reduces complexity, later updates become simpler and maintenance effort goes down. What remains is built as an extension instead of in the program code. With the 1:1 migration, the customizations are carried over.

What paths lead from Navision to Business Central?

Three: with the Easy Starter, you rebuild your master data; with the data migration, you carry over master data and transaction data; with the 1:1 migration, your customizations come along as well. Which path fits, we decide with you in the migration concept. A comparison of the three paths is on our page about moving from Navision.

Does our business keep running during the move?

Yes. The move is not an uncontrolled big bang: you keep working in your existing system until the cutover. Before go-live, we check processes and interfaces in the test phase and involve your users. NAVAX supports you during the go-live and in the stabilization phase afterwards.

Cloud or on-premises?

That is one of the fundamental decisions in the migration concept, alongside how to handle extensions, project scope, scheduling and budget. In favor of the cloud: cloud customers receive new features continuously and no longer depend on large upgrade programs.

What is the Upgrade Management Service?

The Upgrade Management Service applies to Business Central SaaS, meaning Business Central in the cloud. The base package covers up to two major releases per year: we inform you about planned updates, check the compatibility of your custom software, give you a functional overview and agree on the next steps in a joint meeting. Upgrade Management Service Plus additionally includes the technical deployment of these major releases and ensuring operability within the contractually defined scope. For minor releases, there is a separate extension.

How long does an upgrade take, and what does it cost?

That depends on the path, your customizations, interfaces and data volume. We define project scope, schedule and budget in the migration concept, after recording your starting point in the analysis.

What experience does NAVAX have with upgrades?

NAVAX has completed more than 130 migrations from NAV to Business Central. Its expertise ranges from NAV and Business Central to handling complex customizations and the modern extension architecture, with an industry focus that includes trade, construction and manufacturing.

Changing systems doesn't have to be a leap into the unknown.

Predictable phases, business as usual until the cutover and, in the cloud, support through the major releases: tell us your starting point, and we will discuss the path to Business Central with you.
