What does a Power BI consultant do?

Is Power BI better than Excel?

For recurring reports from several data sources, yes. For quick one-off calculations, Excel remains the right tool. Power BI refreshes data automatically, handles large data volumes and controls who sees which figures. You can combine both: data from Power BI can be used directly in Excel.

How much does a Power BI license cost?

The cost depends on how many people create or read reports and how much compute capacity you need. Microsoft offers Power BI Pro, Power BI Premium Per User and capacities through Microsoft Fabric. Power BI Pro, for example, is already included in Microsoft 365 E5. NAVAX clarifies which model is most economical for you in the licensing advice.

How long does a Power BI implementation take?

Is Power BI hard to learn?

Your employees quickly learn to read and filter dashboards, because the interface resembles Excel and other Microsoft programs. Building your own reports takes more practice, especially with the DAX formula language and the Power Query editor. You do not need to know how to code. Microsoft provides learning paths on Microsoft Learn, and NAVAX trains your team at handover.

Is Power BI still relevant?

Yes. Microsoft continues to develop Power BI and has made it part of Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft’s data platform. With Copilot in Power BI, you can also create reports and summaries by asking questions in plain language.

Which data sources can Power BI connect to?

Power BI connects to more than a hundred data sources, including Excel, SQL databases, SharePoint and ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. NAVAX clarifies in the analysis which of your sources are suitable for a dashboard.

How secure is my data in Power BI?

You control who sees which data: through your Microsoft accounts and roles and, if needed, down to individual rows. Where Microsoft stores the data is determined by your Microsoft tenant. NAVAX itself is ISO 27001 certified.

Does Power BI work with Business Central?

Yes. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central connects directly to Power BI, and Microsoft provides dedicated Power BI apps for it, for example for finance, sales and inventory. NAVAX clarifies which additional analyses you need in the first conversation.

Do I need Microsoft Fabric for Power BI?

No, Power BI on its own is enough to get started. Microsoft Fabric becomes interesting when you want to collect large data volumes from many systems in one place and use them for reports, analytics and AI. NAVAX discusses with you in the consultation whether and when that pays off.
