ERP customization: as much as necessary.

As much Microsoft standard as possible, as much customization as necessary. NAVAX customizes where standard and apps fall short, and reviews existing customizations before they move.

How you can tell

Three statements we hear before every customization.

Do you recognize yourself in one of these statements? Tap it, and next to it you see how we handle it.

  1. With NAVAX

In the past, processes were adapted to the system and heavily developed. Today, we check the standard process first and look at processes and value rather than just the technology. Custom development is the exception, not the norm.

  2. With NAVAX

Then it gets specific: in the gap/fit analysis, we assess the standard functionality and available apps. If a gap with real business value remains, we close it with a targeted extension, for example a production output posting that reports several production order lines together using a grouping code.

  3. With NAVAX

Not every existing customization is worth keeping. Too many legacy customizations put maintainability and upgradeability at risk. In the customization audit, we clarify which customizations are truly business-critical, and only then do we migrate.

The customization check

As much standard as possible, as much customization as necessary.

Choose what it's about: a new requirement or a customization you already have. Then you see how we decide.

Step 1 of 3

Business Central standard

First, we check the standard process. Whatever the standard functionality covers needs no customization.

Example
Sales returns

Solved entirely with Business Central's built-in tools, deliberately without customization.

Approach

Customization is the last step, not the starting point.

Gap/fit analysis, assessment of the standard functionality, an MVP built with the business department, and only then are remaining gaps closed in a targeted way.

  1. Three people in conversation at a meeting table with laptopsWhat does the standard cover?

    Check the standard

We compare your requirements with the standard and assess the standard functionality from a process and value perspective.

    • Gap/fit analysis
    • Assessment of the standard functionality
    • Process and value perspective instead of a technical one
  2. A man and a woman working at a table with laptopsHow does your team work with it?

    MVP with the business department

We build an MVP on the standard and involve your business department. That shows in the system where a gap really remains.

    • Building an MVP
    • Involving the business department
  3. A colleague leans over to a colleague at her screen and explains somethingWhere does customization pay off?

Close gaps in a targeted way

We close remaining gaps in a targeted way, and only where an extension delivers concrete value.

    • Custom extensions
    • Interfaces
    • Combination with apps only where there is concrete value

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about ERP customization.

What customers most often want to know before an extension or a system change.

What is ERP customization?

Customization is adapting standard software, such as an ERP system, to the requirements of a company. At NAVAX, the rule is: as much Microsoft standard as possible, as much customization as necessary. NAVAX uses customization specifically where standard functionality or available apps don't deliver enough business value.

Does NAVAX advise against customization?

No. Customization isn't rejected but used in a targeted way. NAVAX implements via standard processes, extends as needed and combines with apps and custom extensions when that brings concrete value. At NAVAX, custom development complements the ERP EasyStarter, migration, apps, training and the Customer Service.

When is a custom extension worth it?

When, after the gap/fit analysis, the assessment of the standard functionality and an MVP with the business department, a gap remains that has real business value. Two examples: sales returns we solved entirely with Business Central's built-in tools, deliberately without customization. For production output postings, a targeted extension was built that can report several production order lines together based on a grouping code.

What happens to our existing customizations during a migration?

They go into the customization audit. There, we assess which customizations should be carried over, which can be replaced by standard functionality and which can be dropped completely. Only once it is clear which customizations are truly business-critical do we migrate.

Which path from Navision takes which customizations along?

With the Easy Starter, you reassess customizations; this brings the strongest modernization and the greatest reduction of historical custom developments. With the data migration, your history is preserved; we reassess the customizations and carry them over selectively. With the 1:1 migration, existing customizations largely remain; the modernization effect is smallest here.

Why are many old customizations a risk?

Too many legacy customizations endanger maintainability and upgradeability. In many NAV systems, customizations sit directly in the program code and have to be reworked with every version change. In Business Central, customizations are built as extensions, not in the standard code. Existing customizations therefore have to prove their value again.

What should we check before the move?

NAVAX recommends before the project starts: check the quality of your master data, clarify how much history you need, critically question customizations and assess the options for process optimization.

What does NAVAX include under customization?

In the toolkit around the NAVAX ERP EasyStarter, customization covers: custom extensions, interfaces, AppSource apps, AI & agents, Power BI, Power Platform and modern workplace. In addition, there are preconfigured industry solutions, reusable best practices and standardized implementation approaches as packages.

For which systems does NAVAX offer customization?

For Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and for the CRM applications Dynamics 365 Sales, Customer Insights, Field Service and Customer Service. The principle is the same everywhere: as much Microsoft standard as possible, as much customization as necessary.

Let's check together what your system really needs.

Whether it's a new requirement or accumulated customizations: we check the standard first and close remaining gaps in a targeted way.
